Hoʻomaluhia Horse Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses in need while providing a lifelong sanctuary for horses who cannot be safely or appropriately rehomed.
Beyond rescue, Ho‘omaluhia uses its horses and land to create opportunities for education and community connection. Through equine education and developing agricultural programs, they teach keiki and the community about horses, local food production, food security, sustainability, and responsible stewardship of the ‘āina.
Their Story
Ho‘omaluhia began when a previous horse rescue on O‘ahu closed and one of its co-founders followed the herd to their next home. Along the way, friendships were formed, more horses joined the family, and the herd eventually found a new home together.
Years later, that journey led to the creation of Ho‘omaluhia Horse Rescue Hawai‘i. As the rescue grew, Asia Pacific International School (APIS) welcomed them onto its property in Ha‘ula, giving Ho‘omaluhia the space to expand its rescue efforts and develop educational and agricultural programs.
Today, Ho‘omaluhia continues to provide horses with a safe place to heal while creating opportunities for the community to learn about animals, agriculture, food security, and caring for the ‘āina.

Experience
Ho‘omaluhia Horse Rescue Hawai‘i offers hands-on experiences that connect the community with its rescue horses while supporting their care and programs. These include school and homeschool field trips, Brunch with the Rescues, corporate retreats, and private events.
Proceeds from these experiences help fund horse care, equine education, agricultural programs, and the continued growth of the rescue.
